Road Trip: Chattanooga

Chattanooga is an easy 45-minute drive down I-24. Often cited in text books on good urban planning, the city's transformation over the last decade has been incredible. The Hunter Art Museum, Tennesee Aquarium and Creative Discovery Museum are just a few of the attractions. SAS students enjoy weekend trips to Chattanooga to visit the many restaurants and movie theaters and the Hamilton Place Mall.

Park the car downtown and stroll the city streets. A walkway lined with public sculptures (almost as nice as the outdoor sculptures at SAS) will lead you up to the Bluffview Art District with its wonderful views of the river and fine dining.

If this is your first trip to Chattanooga, be sure head across the Walnut Street Bridge to check out Frazier Avenue and Coolidge Park. Once nearly abandoned, this section of town is now home to a great array of fun and funky stores and restaurants. Nestled along the Tennessee River, Coolidge Park is a great place to grab an ice cream cone, ride a carousel and cool off under the animal fountains.
