Admission Counselors, St. Andrew's-Sewanee is now scheduling visits through RepVisits. Phone calls and emails are still welcome.

At St. Andrew's-Sewanee School, college counseling is all about finding the right fit for each student. We offer the personalized attention needed to find the college that will help students reach their full potential as scholars and as people. We won't let students talk themselves out of trying for a university that might be a bit of a stretch. And, we won't shove a student into the wrong school just to make our matriculation list look good.

We try to provide students and families with a working list of viable college options to investigate, schools that not only provide an appropriate level of intellectual challenge but also meet individual preferences and priorities. "The process works best when the whole family is involved and includes honest soul-searching, asking questions, assessing abilities, and visiting colleges across the country. ~ Christine Asmussen, Director of College Counseling
Each year SAS hosts a college counseling workshop for junior students and their parents. The workshop includes sessions with Mrs. Asmussen and with college counselors and financial aid officers from the University of the South who help to explain the process and give families a preview of what to expect. Throughout the junior year Mrs. Asmussen meets with juniors in groups and individually.

In a typical year, more than 50 colleges and universities send admission representatives to SAS. Given our remote location and small size, this is a clear testament to the reputation our graduates have in the college world. Mrs. Asmussen also organizes college visits for groups of students throughout the school year.

On Opening Weekend there is another college counseling program for senior parents. And yet another college counseling speaker or panel on Upper School Family Weekend. Two recent programs were "Demystifying Selected Admissions" by the Associate Director of Admissions at George Washington University and a panel of former SAS parents entitled, "We've Been There and Lived to Tell About It."

Each year, the first senior accepted into college receives special recognition and all acceptances are announced to hearty applause in Chapel. Mrs. Asmussen's door is adorned with a star for every senior and a list of college acceptances.
