St. Andrew's-Sewanee School is excited to begin the school year. Opening events for St. Andrew's-Sewanee School's 2017-18 school year begin on Wednesday, August 16 with the Middle School New Family Gathering. On Friday, August 18, new boarding students move on to campus and all students new to the Upper School begin orientation. Returning boarding students move in on Saturday, August 19. Senior parents meet that morning with Director of College Counseling Christine Asmussen to kick off the college application season. Also on Saturday, all students, Middle School parents, and returning parents come to campus for presentations and advisory meetings. All students will participate in orientation activities on Saturday.
All parents are invited to attend a reception at Ayres House, the home of Head of School Karl J. Sjolund and his wife Susan, on Friday, August 18 from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Orientation and opening activities for parents include meetings with their child's house parents and advisors, training on the school's learning management system and other school technology, and information on health services, private music lessons, Sewanee Symphony Orchestra participation, afternoon programs, and learning resources.
On Monday, August 21, the student body will gather at 8 a.m. for its first all-school Eucharist in the school's newly renovated Chapel. There will be a special all-school solar eclipse celebration and viewing in the afternoon.
SAS welcomes 44 new students this year representing 11 countries. Thirty-two of the new students are boarding students, including 4 boarding students in the 8th grade -- a new option for 8th graders. The school is also offering 5-day boarding this year. The school continues to accept applications for this year.
