Independent Study Project

Last week, the Tennessee Society of Engineers celebrated Engineering Week at the University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI), by inviting several high schools in the vicinity to send students for an engineering design competition.

SAS students Sam Weintraub, Mark Rogers, Thomas Kessen and Eli Matthews went to the competition in Tullahoma. They formed 2 teams of 2 each, and were given a scenario of moving ping pong balls through an obstacle course without touching them; the project was designed to simulate the movement of radioactive materials.

After being given modeling materials and time to build, they worked on moving as many ping pong balls as they could within 90 seconds.

The SAS team of juniors Thomas Kessen and Eli Matthews came second overall in the design competition, winning a $75 gift card each! Congrats, y'all, and we're so glad you got the opportunity to compete and show off your skills.
