St. Andrew’s-Sewanee Head of School Karl J. Sjolund announced in Chapel on Monday, September 30, that senior Gabriel Pongdee has been named a Commended Student in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Gabriel is one of 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation who placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2020 competition by taking the 018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
Gabriel is a seven-year day student at SAS. A high honors student, over the years he has been recognized for outstanding achievement in Spanish, World History, Mathematics, and Economics. He is a Proctor, President of the school’s Cum Laude Society, and enjoys participating in the school’s outdoor adventure programs. Gabriel is the son of Rongson and Rosie Pongdee of Tracy City, Tenn.
