Three varsity athletes recently signed Letters of Intent to continue their athletic careers in college. Charlie Barron (Chattanooga, TN) will run cross country and track for Wellesley College in Massachusetts. Mac Croom (Sewanee, TN) will play soccer at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. Pyunn Ntwari (Rome, Italy and Kigali, Rwanda) will run cross country and track at Birmingham Southern College in Alabama.
Charlie, a four-year boarding student, is a High Honors student, a member of the Honor Council, and a Proctor. She is also a member of the school’s award-winning Ethics Bowl team and a founder of the school’s Interact Club. In addition to her regular coursework, Charlie completed American Sign Language (ASL) as an independent study and took courses in psychology and economics at the University of the South. She was recently recognized for exceeding the required coursework in Science & Technology. She is a four-year, three-sport athlete, a senior captain of the Track, Wrestling, and Cross Country teams and she has received the Coaches’ Award in all three sports and the Cross Country MVP award. She is a member of the school’s Student Athlete Leadership Team. Her relay team holds school records in the 4x400 and 4x800. Her 4x800 team placed 7th at last year’s state meet and, thanks to outstanding performance at this year’s regional track meet, she is headed to the state track meet in the 4x800m and 4x400m relays and the 800m run. Charlie placed 6th at the TSSAA Wrestling State Meet. In 2020, she received a NWCA/USMC High School Scholar All-American Award. Charlie participated in the school’s Jamaica Service Trip, worked as a counselor for the Waterfalls and Swimming Holes summer camp, attended the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Humanities, and completed an internship with the National Center for Gun Violence Reporting.
Mac is a seven-year day student. A High Honors student, Mac was a Proctor and a member of the Honor Council and Ethics Bowl team. Over the years, he has received class awards in American Studies, Latin, history, and math. Mac was a member of the varsity soccer team and was recently recognized as the team’s MVP. He also participated in strength and conditioning.
Pyunn is a two-year boarding student. An Honors student, Pyunn was an Acolyte, Proctor, and member of the Student Athlete Leadership Team, Asian Student Union, Black Student Union, and Interact. He was recently recognized for exceeding the required coursework in Science & Technology. Pyunn participated in varsity cross country, basketball, and track and field. He received the Coaches Award in cross country and basketball and the Most Improved Player Award in basketball and track and field. In 2021, Pyunn’s 4x800 relay team qualified for the TSSAA Division IIA state championships. Pyunn received the International Presidential Scholarship at Birmingham Southern.
