Thirteen SAS Middle School swimmers traveled to Nashville to compete in the MTHSSA Middle School Championship Meet at the Centennial Sportsplex. The MS Boys team finished 4th overall out of 40 teams with a total score of 163 points. All swimmers on both the boys team and the girls team dropped time in one or more individual events.
8th graders Martin Brodsky, Sam Frazier, and Konrad Knoll combined with 7th grader Asher Kavur for a thrilling come from behind first place finish and new school record in the 200 yd Medley Relay with a time of 1:53.53, an 8.95 sec time improvement over their previous season best time. The same four boys teamed up on the 200 yd Freestyle Relay for an incredibly close second place finish against Brentwood Middle School with a time of 1:40.81, another school record and season best time by 7.81 seconds.
Individual swims at Finals were equally exciting. Frazier took 3rd overall in the 100 Butterfly with a new school record and personal best time of 55.76 and 7th overall in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:04.08. Teammate Knoll added to the points earned with a 2nd place finish and personal best time of 25.92 in the 50 Freestyle and a 14th place finish and new personal best in the 100 Backstroke (1:08.73). Kavur did his part with two personal bests and 7th place finishes in both the 100 Freestyle (58.27) and 100 Breaststroke (1:15.28), while Brodsky rounded out the points earned and the personal best swims with a 9th place finish in the 200 Freestyle (2:06.86) and a 10th place finish in the 100 Butterfly (1:08.68).
During the Preliminary Session in the morning, 7th grader Archer Ladd earned the biggest time improvements on the team overall for the entire meet, dropping 18.63 sec in the 200 IM for a time of 2:52.63 and 4.74 seconds in the 100 Breaststroke for a time of 1:29.22. The MS Girls Team also dropped time in several events. 8th grader Lily Camp dropped 1.05 sec in the 50 Freestyle for a new PB of 34.92, Kyla Kilgore dropped 2.29 sec in the 100 Breaststroke for a new PB of 1:33.54, and Leah Moody dropped 0.89 sec in the 50 Freestyle for a new PB of 32.81. Kilgore and Moody combined with 8th grader Ella Matthews and 6th grader Elena Brodsky for a new season best in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 2:22.39.
This meet wrapped up the end of an impressive swim season for the undefeated SAS Middle School swim team.
