WMTN Wins Award!

Earlier this month, a small group of St. Andrew's-Sewanee School radio students traveled to New York City for the Intercollegiate Broadcasting Systems Conference. At the conference, students learned tricks of the trade from industry professionals, including NBC's Al Roker.

These students were hoping to bring back more than the inside knowledge of the profession they gained at the conference. Three student DJ's were nominated for "best in the nation" awards for their work at WMTN, 93.1 and 103.1 - St. Andrew's-Sewanee School's very own radio station. These students were up against much larger schools from all across the country, so being nominated was in and of itself an honor. But the WMTN team would not come back to Tennessee empty-handed; all of the student DJ's at the conference cheered loudly when junior Griff Wilson's name was called for the "best 2024 Station ID" award. Also nominated for awards were junior Sam Weintraub for best show promo, and senior Zhuri Price for best specialty music show.

Faculty sponsor Stephen Brehm, in his first year in charge of the radio program, said "This was a great experience for the students as well as myself. All of us came back energized and excited to share everything we learned with the rest of the class. They were especially excited to come back with a trophy. They are extremely motivated to work hard and earn more nominations next year. We are a small school, but we have an abundance of creative students. I have no doubt that they will succeed."
