Coaching Staff

  • Head Coach

Originally from Reno, Nevada (4th generation), Coach Seavey played varsity basketball and baseball at Sparks High School. After two years in Europe, he walked on the basketball team at Southern Utah State College, then quit because academics had become more important to him. He finished his undergraduate degree at BYU (History major, Latin and Greek minor) and graduate work at UNC (Classics with historical emphasis). While at Chapel Hill, Coach Seavey played with many future NBA players and twice was intramural runner-up for under six-foot 1-on-1 competition. He taught at East Carolina University for nine years, then came to Sewanee for a one-year position at the University of the South. Coach Seavey started teaching at SAS in 2004 and has coached middle school boys basketball the entire time. His teams have won four champions and five runner-ups in that time. For many years, he also assisted in coaching baseball with legendary coach James Barry.

  • Assistant Coach

Walter Reid ’10 received his BA in International Relations and Affairs in Latin America from University of North Georgia and an AAS in Criminal Justice. He lived, studied, and taught in Nicaragua and Peru and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Columbia. Most recently, he has taught History, English, and Social Studies at Aspaen Colombia in Bogotá.
