People regularly ask me why I continue to donate to SAS by recurring contribution to the SAS Fund and serving on the Alumni Council. I think of it as giving back what my education at SAS has been giving to me since my graduation in 2005. My small investment in the continuation towards the vitality of SAS is a small price to pay. I think about the many hours of instruction, tutorial sessions, athletic events, and weekends during which the SAS faculty were always available to me. While it might have been all in a day's work for teachers of other schools, SAS teachers, coaches, and mentors go far beyond a simple job description in their investment in a student's growth. For me, it was an adult willing to listen and help me talk through a problem, my advisor reminding me to pull up my socks, and it was a safe space in which I could find my strengths and work on my weaknesses. I have been able to carry these skills and self-discipline forward to my job, my friendships, and my understanding of the world.

SAS continues to give to me in this way. The school and my fellow students became part of my extended family and I like to think that I am giving back to my SAS family. I know many of my fellow alums feel the same way. We have stayed connected, and I have met many other former students who, through their experiences with SAS, Sewanee Academy, St. Andrew's School, Sewanee Military Academy, and St. Mary's share this feeling about our expanded community. Our expanded family. This is why we donate to the school. The school needs us as much as we needed it. Please consider a gift to the SAS Fund, or to a project or service of your choice at the school that has meaning to you so today's students continue to have outstanding opportunities. - Anneke Skidmore '05
