SAS Offers College and Career Planning Weekend
Posted 02/13/2018 02:53PM

This weekend, St. Andrew's-Sewanee School upperclassmen will enjoy the wisdom and knowledge of those who have gone before them.

On Saturday, February 17, SAS Director of College Counseling Christine Asmussen will kick off college search season for the junior class with the annual College Planning Day. Asmussen will provide students and their parents with important information on how to evaluate colleges and universities, what to consider when looking at how to finance a college education, and how to tour campuses. For the last part of the morning, the group will travel to the University of the South to hear advice from staff and students there about college and the admissions process.

On Sunday, February 18, juniors and seniors will attended St. Andrew's-Sewanee School's biennial Alumni Career Series. Sunday's event begins at 2:30 p.m. in McCory Hall for the Performing Arts. The students will enjoy panel talks and discussions on career planning, résumé writing, interviewing skills, and how to turn one's unique abilities and interests into a career. The day will end with a casual dinner for the group. Alumni guest panelists include Conley Averett '09 (fashion), Flora Ziliak '09 (medicine), Isaac Arnold '04 (photography), Ryan Barry '04 (law), Leslie Green Bryant '94 (education), Bill Priestley '94 (radio/career counseling), Rob Utlaut '85 (military/engineering), and Bill Yarborough SMA '68 (acting/business owner). SAS Alumni Council members assisting with the series will be Teresa Outlaw '82 (education), Laura Cunningham '96 (hospitality), and Xan Glover '92 (professional firefighter).

On Monday evening, February 19, the SAS Class of 2018 will gather for the annual Senior Etiquette Dinner on the SAS campus. The dinner is organized by the SAS Alumni Council and Director of Alumni and Special Events Lizzie Duncan. The formal dinner with "celebrity" waitstaff from among the SAS faculty is an opportunity for seniors to brush up on their table manners and conversational skills. Additional alumni assisting with the dinner are Ben Beavers SA '81 (utilities management) and Ansley Kellermann '00 (non-profits).
