St. Andrew's-Sewanee School will host its fifth Tennessee Interscholastic Cycling League championship on Sunday, November 11. The races, which begin at 9:15 a.m. with the Varsity and JV Girls, will continue throughout the day. The final race begins just after 1 p.m. There are ten races in all for riders from grade 6-12. The awards ceremony will take place at 3:00 PM. Spectators are welcome. There is no admission fee.
The Tennessee Interscholastic Cycling League will host a mountain bike skills and rider clinic on Saturday presented by Little Bellas and GRiT. No experience is necessary, new riders to the Tennessee League are welcome and encouraged to attend. The afternoon session will include all ages and abilities grouped in age ranges of 10-13 and 14-18, from noon - 2 p.m. CST. Please bring your bike and wear comfortable riding attire.
Since its 2013 inaugural season, the league has grown to 28 teams. The league has a 4-race fall season concluding with the State Championships on St. Andrew's-Sewanee School extensive trails. The State Championships at SAS require 92 volunteers. They are filled by parents, students, and interested friends of the league. Mountain biking, under Head Coach Speed Baranco, is one of the largest athletic programs at SAS.
The program is designed to provide a wide range of riding experiences for boys and girls of all ages and abilities. The coaches are committed to creating a positive environment that fosters respect, support, inclusiveness, fairness, safety, enthusiasm, and work ethic.
St. Andrew's-Sewanee School is located at 290 Quintard in Sewanee, Tenn. Some campus roads will be inaccessible during the races.
