St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School (SAS), a boarding and day school in Sewanee, Tenn. is excited to announce the Boyd Scholarships, a new initiative that will provide up to full tuition support to deserving students from Shelby County, Tennessee who are seeking a high-quality college preparatory education in a boarding school setting. The scholarship is being funded by a generous and anonymous endowment gift.
The Boyd Scholarship Program welcomes applicants with academic promise and demonstrated leadership ability whose presence will enhances the cultural, ethnic, socio-economic, and/or racial diversity at St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School. Applicants must be residents of Shelby County, Tennessee, and must intend to attend SAS as a boarding student and to complete their high school education at SAS. The Boyd Scholarships provide full demonstrated financial need. Selection is based on a candidate’s academic promise, demonstrated leadership ability, and potential to contribute to the cultural, ethnic, socio-economic, and/or racial diversity at St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School. The Boyd Scholarship will be renewed each year throughout the student’s high school career provided that the student remains in good academic and disciplinary standing and is making satisfactory progress toward graduation.

To apply for the Boyd Scholarship, families should contact firstname.lastname@example.org and begin the school’s regular application process. Students who indicate an interest in being considered for the Boyd Scholarship will be asked to complete a supplementary essay in addition to the regular admission requirements.

The Boyd Scholarship Program is named to honor St. Andrew’s alumnus and longtime Memphis resident and community leader, the Rev. James R. Boyd. Fr. Boyd established urban ministries in Memphis and led churches in Fayetteville, N.C. and Salem, Ore. He is CEO of the Pyramid Peak Foundation, a member of the Board of Directors of Memphis Education Fund and Aspire Public Schools, and former president and chief executive officer of BRIDGES, a Memphis youth leadership organization. Fr. Boyd was honored in 2016 with the naming of the Jim Boyd BRIDGES Center. An alumnus of the school, for decades, Fr. Boyd has provided wise counsel to SAS in a variety of leadership roles, including as a member of the school’s Board of Trustees, and is a key contact for the school as it works to welcome applicants from the Memphis area.
