George Garrett, Ph.D., SMA '46
George Garrett, Poet Laureate of the Commonwealth of Virginia, is a distinguished novelist, poet, critic, professor and editor. He retired from UVA after 42 years as the Henry Hoyns Professor of Creative Writing. After graduating from SMA, he earned a B.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton and holds an honorary degree from the University of the South. He received the Cleanth Brooks Medal for Lifetime Achievement from the Fellowship of Southern Writers, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts Sabbatical Fellowship, the T.S. Eliot Award and the PEN/Malamud Award for Short Fiction.

Robert E. Adams, SMA '51
Bob Adams was a member of the SAS Board of Trustees from 1993 to 1997 and was instrumental in the growth of the Alumni Council, serving three terms as president from 1991-97. Bob served as a member of the 125 Celebration Committee, reunion leader for his Medallion Reunion in 2001, and was Chair of the "Salute to the Academy" in 2005.
He is providing leadership for his upcoming reunion celebrating 55 years and the class gift for scholarships.
Stanley Hole, StA '49
Stanley Hole served on the Board of Trustees from 1993 to 1999, and was Board Chair and Secretary. He was a member of the Cornerstone Campaign Steering Committee, the Vision Campaign, and the SAS Centennial Committee. Stanley has been a class agent and reunion leader, is a member of the Mountain Society, and has hosted SAS alumni events in the Naples/Ft. Myers, Fla., area.
Ralph Williams, SMA '51
Ralph Williams, a key alumni leader in the Atlanta area, served as a member of the Board of Trustees from 1997 to 2003. He was Board Treasurer, Finance Committee Chair, and a member of the Executive and Investment Committees. He has served as Annual Fund Chair, is a new member of the Mountain Society, and was honored as a Lead Donor in the Cornerstone Campaign.
