St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School junior Diana Rinck has been selected as a recipient of a scholarship for the prestigious Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program (CBYX) for the 2014-15 academic year. The CBYX, which is administrated by the U. S. Department of State, offers German and American students a scholarship for an academic year abroad.

The Congress-Bundestag Program was created by the U.S. Congress and German Bundestag as a public diplomacy program, to promote understanding between the people of the United States and Germany. Participating students develop critical intercultural skills, new language skills, confidence, and leadership while learning what it’s like to live and attend school in Germany.

As a Congress-Bundestag scholar, Diana’s exchange year will include: placement with a carefully selected German host family, admission to a German high school, orientation programs in Washington D.C. and Germany, meetings with American and German government officials, cultural excursions to the German Bundestag and select German cities, and supplementary language lessons.

Diana is the daughter of Steve and Claudia Rinck of Sewanee. She is an honor student and serves as an SAS Ambassador, one of the highest SAS leadership positions. She is a member of the SAS Chorus. Diana has earned varsity letters in volleyball, basketball, tennis, and track and field. In addition to her SAS courses, she takes French classes at the University of the South.
