Students Excel in National Language Exams

SAS students participated in national language exams in Latin, Spanish, and French. Twelve SAS students were recognized for outstanding achievement on the 2014 National Latin Exam, including one student who received the Silver Maxima Cum Laude medal. Students of Spanish earned two gold, two silver, and six bronze medals, and 17 honorable mentions on the 2014 National Spanish Examinations. One student, studying independently, earned first place in Tennessee and fifth place on the national level on The Grand Concours de Français.

St. Andrew's-Sewanee School students were joined by over 154,000 students from 49 states and 17 foreign countries in taking the 2014 National Latin Exam. Twelve SAS students were recognized for their outstanding achievement on the exam, including one student who received the Silver Maxima Cum Laude medal.

Dr. Bill Seavey, SAS Latin teacher, was understandably proud of his students, "Even though we do not prepare for this exam as most schools do, our students return consistently high scores. This year our students did exceptionally well."

Spanish students from St. Andrews-Sewanee School attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2014 National Spanish Examinations. Students from SAS earned a total of two gold, two silver, and six bronze medals along with 17 honorable mentions. Students from St. Andrews-Sewanee School have a long history of high achievement on these exams thanks to the outstanding instruction of Spanish teachers Claudia and Steve Rinck

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12. They are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

Although SAS does not offer French instruction, German exchange student Amelie Ohler participated in the The Grand Concours de Français (the National French Contest). In Level 4C, Amelie's score earned her 1st place in Tennessee and the rank of 5th place on the national level.
