The 2013 SAS wrestling team finished with a 13-11 season. This year came as a bit of a pleasant surprise to Coach Barry since there were only three seniors: Robert Post, Myles Kincaid and Tyler Privette. Tyler was unable to compete due to injury. After that the field was rounded out with five sophomores, five freshmen, and one eighth grader. Over half the team had one year or less experience in wrestling. This is basically unheard of to have a winning season with this level of experience. Robert took 3rd place at the Charger Invitational while Myles brought home a coveted 1st place championship at our own 32nd Annual Mountain Top Invitational. The Team brought home a 2nd place trophy at the Buccaneer Duals and wrestled their way into the semifinals at the TSSAA DII Invitational duals qualifier. Six wrestlers have been chosen to represent St. Andrews-Sewanee at the TSSAA State Individuals on Feb.15-16: senior captain Robert Post, senior Myles Kincaid, freshmen Alex Hanson, Michael Schaerer, and Tommy Oliver, and eighth grader Christian Taylor. With this young squad performing so well even in a proverbial “building year”, it has proven to have a solid foundation. This has been achieved through hard work and dedication by wrestlers, their families, and SAS school support.
