SAS Varsity Soccer Wraps up Regular Season

On Tuesday, September 28, St. Andrew’s-Sewanee's varsity girls’ soccer team defeated Middle Tennessee Christian School 3-0. The first half was scoreless, but the Mountain Lions came out on fire in the second half. Anna Bridgers (junior, Sylva, NC) was the first to put the Mountain Lions on the board with a textbook volley off a cross from Sara Knight (sophomore, Sewanee, TN).  Ten minutes later, Reagan Vaughan (junior, Sewanee, TN) ripped a shot just outside the penalty box. With eight minutes remaining in the game, Sarah Grace Powell (sophomore, Alameda, CA) cranked a shot into the upper righthand corner of the net.

On Thursday, September 30, the team traveled to Chattanooga to take on Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences. The Maintain Lions struggled to find a rhythm and fell to the Patriots, 0-3. SAS ended their regular season with a record of 4-5-1. "This is an amazing group of young women," commented Coach Burns. “We still have much to learn, but they have stuck together and supported each other on and off the field. I am proud of what they have accomplished.” The team now enters into the regional tournament play.
